ZhangYing Jazz Group

Being praised as the female 'Jazz Talent' and graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music with the major of composing, Zhang Ying (Sondia) has dedicated herself to the composition of the local music for years. To allow more Chinese people to understand and love this wonderful jazz music, she has written a number of Chinese jazz songs and added into jazz, rock n' roll, Acid Jazz, Bossa Nova, Latin, Funk, Hip-Hop, Fusion, and other styles to form her own unique style. In 2005, Zhang Ying Jazz Group was set up with the domestic top jazz musicians including the guitarist Liu Yue, the pianist Xia Jia, the bassist Huang Yong, the drummer Beibei, and the percussion player Gao Xing. With the delicate singing by Zhang and the various styles of compositions, as well as the exciting band performances, the band wins the heart of the majority of the jazz fans. More and more attention is drawn by Zhang Ying Jazz Group's charming musical styles and China's local jazz has been breathed into a fresh air.

Band Members:

Liu Yue (Guitarist)

A well-known jazz guitarist and bassist; graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music with the major of Double Bass; a member of Cui Jian's Band; the image spokesman for the world renowned bass brand Warwick; the strings spokesmen for D'Addario and a Jazz Guitar lecturer in Beijing Midi Music School.

Xia Jia (Keyboard/ Clavier player)

A recognized talented jazz pianist in China; graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music majoring in commanding and from the American Eastman School of Music majoring jazz piano; currently a member of Cui Jian Band.

Huang Yong (Bassist)

A well-known jazz bassist in China; the planner and organizer of jazz activities.

Beibei (Drummer)

A rare versatile drummer in China; enjoys high reputation by the drum fans; an incumbent member of Cui Jian's Band and the drummer in 'Second-hand Rose Band'; the image spokesmen for the world renowned drum brand Mapex, the bell brand Sabian and the drumstick brand Vic Firth.

Percussion (Gao Xing)

A young and energetic percussion player; good at performing Cuban and Latin percussion instruments; graduated from the School of Music of the Ministerio de Cultura Instituto Superior de Arte de Cuba majoring in percussion; a percussion lecturer in Beijing Institute of Modern Music.
