Liu Yue Trio China

With the first-rate jazz musicians as band members, Liu Yue Trio is about to present his original works in our Jazz Festival this year, including Wen Zhu, Zhong Guo Gu Niang, Guo Long Jiang, etc. They are all modern Jazz songs with a strong flavor of Chinese music.

Liu Yue (Guitarist)

One of the well-known jazz guitarists and bassists in Beijing; a member of Cui Jian's Band; the image spokesman for the world renowned bass brand Warwick; the strings spokesmen for D'Addario. With deep and unique understanding of jazz bass and jazz guitar, Liu expresses the internal elements of music through his superb and refined skill in performances.

Since 1998, he has always been proactive as a music player in jazz performances at home and abroad. He has participated in a wide range of jazz concerts, recordings, and performances in a series of jazz festivals in Beijing, Shanghai, Northern Europe. He has also engaged in the cause of jazz education, by means of recording and publishing his personal VCDs concerning jazz-and-guitar teaching, writing jazz feature lectures for Modern Player, Guitar Fans and other magazines. He is now teaching jazz guitar in Beijing Midi Music School.

Xia Jia (Keyboard)

As a jazz pianist who lives in Beijing, Xia Jia is dedicated to the performance, creation and teaching of jazz piano/keyboard playing. He learnt piano with his mother since his childhood and later on studied piano and commanding as his major in China Music Conservatory. In 2004, he graduated from Eastman School of Music, with Harold Danko as his piano teacher.

Now he is a keyboardist in a couple of bands, such as Red Hand and Xia Jia Trio. He is also organist of Eastern Quartet.

His original works include Purple Seed, Dream of Five-Colored Soil, Saline Soil, San He, Accidental Moment, 100 Mai, Tea, Dark Blue, Ocean Dew, 1603, Horrified Strait, Power of the Seed, Happy Xiao San Er, 1000 Nights, Shu Jiang Chou, Motoko's Mode, etc.

He started learning drums with IZUMI KOGA in 1998 and began to play on stage in 2000. He used to be drummer of Liu Yuan Quartet, Beijing City Band, and Xia Jia Trio. Now he is a member of Red Hand Jazz Band, Xia Jia Trio, Eastern Quartet and Ah Q Band.

Xiao Dou has exchanged and performed with mamy reknown musicians such as French pianist Christophelier, free jazz pianist Matthew Ship from the US, Canadian bassist Brian Hurley, saxophist Erik "Y"from New York, French musician Eric Truffaz, Christian Brenner and Canadian musician Yannick Rieu.

He was for many time invited to perform in festivals such as Midi music festival, Beijing Nine Gates International Jazz Festival, and Shanghai JZ Festival. He even participated in the Maailmanmusiikin Paivat 2008 suomalaisen ja kiinalaisen musiikin kansainvalinen konferens (China-Finland International Music Conference) held by China Music Conservatory.
