As Shanghai's only international annual jazz music feast, the 5^th 'JAZZY SHANGHAI' Shanghai International Jazz Week is about to open from Jan. 14 to Jan. 17, 2009. Until then, the jazz week will be of an 'intact' lineup, comprised of four jazz ladies to creat an unprecedented grand jazz feast on the grand stage in Shanghai.

American Jazz Queens Showdown in Shanghai

The first presence in this jazz week will be the Queen of American Jazz Patti Austin, who will be on the stage of Shanghai Oriental Art Centre on Jan 14, 2009. Patti Austin won the Best Jazz Vocal Album in the 50^th Annual Grammy Music Festival this year. She is deserved as world's most popular figure in jazz. Her music style transcends popular music and R & B and is in line with the taste of the Chinese audience. She used to be the special guest in Zhou Huajian's concert. She is well-known for her many famous songs, such as No Longer Isolated by Ye Dexian, which is adapted from her song Say You Love Me.

The second presence on the stage will be Salena Jones, who is also an eminent jazz queen in the US. She represents the puriest image of jazz music. Her gloomy yet uniquely magnetic voice, combined with the supreme ability to music comprehension, makes Salena capable of singing creatively any kinds of songs. Many critics in the US even catagorize her as the same with Sarah Vaughan, one of the most talented female singers in the contemporary jazz music history.

Bossa Nova Challenges Funny Maria Cordero

The most widely accepted music style in China is Bossa Nova style, which attracts the largest proportion of jazz fans. The Japanese female singer Bossa Nova, who repeatedly comes to China, is going to be present on Shanghai's grand stage on Jan 16, 2009, after her appearance in the 4^th Shanghai International Jazz Week in 'New Jazz in Orient'.

Since the publication of her first album in 1989 when she just came back to Japan from Brazil, Bossa Nova now has issued eight golden and two platinum records. Her music integrates the traditional Bossa Nova style of rhythm and the fresh yet introverted mood of the Oriental people, which in particular gains many Asian music lovers. Apart from her original songs, she also good at remaking the previous famous songs into Bossa Nova, such as Yesterday, and many other classical pieces of songs.

As the finale and the most 'heavyweighted'person, funny Maria Cordero will never absent on the stage of the festical. She is still active in the Hong Kong TV screen. Besides her funny performance and hosting, Maria is actually an amphibious star combined with singing, film and hosting. Her champion music specialty rests on the black jazz style.

This time Maris is going to bring a jazz music concert, an integration of singing, hosting, performance and other various elements. She will perform the classic works in her album City on Fire. In addition, the funny Maria will possibly give live talk shows for her audience.
